Size guide

All our items are vintage and may have been altered.  Where alterations have been approved, no fabric is allowed to be cut from the original garment, allowing seams and hems be let out again.

We source our costumes from around the world.  These costumes may contain the original clothing size labels, which could also be outdated due to their vintage nature, and/or may relate to the standard clothing sizes of other countries. Please see our Size Guide for our sizing conversion charts where we have converted listed items into current clothing sizes as accurately as possible.

Measuring Service

For a fee of £10 per item, Wardrobe Works can provide specific measurements as required, including:

Chest – Measured at the fullest part of the chest, directly under the armpits.

Waist – Measured at the waistband if there is one, otherwise this measurement is taken 6-8 inches below the armpit.

Sleeve – Sleeve styles vary hugely throughout the eras, with puff sleeves, dropped shoulders and cut-out styles making this one a little tricky, we measure the underarm from the armpit to the cuff.

Length – The full length is taken from the nape of the neck, down to the hemline.

Length of Body – For items such as jumpsuits, playsuits and bodies or swimsuits, we measure from the nape of the neck to the crotch seam.

Rise – Measured from the crotch seam up to the top of the waist band at the front.

Inner Leg – This measurement is taken inside the leg, from the crotch seam down to the hem.

Gloves – The measurement is taken across the widest point of the glove just below the fingers.

Hats – We measure the circumference of the hat by placing the measuring tape on the inside edge of the hat’s head hole and pulling the measuring tape in a circle until both ends of the measuring tape meet.
